I found what I thought was a study of this one online which is included below.
It turns out these are both copies of an image by Johann Peter Hasenclever, Der Dudelsackpfeifer (The bagpiper) 1835. 42 cm x 38.1/2 cm. According to Ernst Schmidt; "I have a good black and white photograph and a description of the colours from a 1919 exhibition catalogue. (The painting is lost now. Missing since 1945. Last place: Private owner near Danzig) A second version by Hasenclever is said to have been destroyed by fire in 1945 in the Leine castle near Hannover. Your version at least gives us an idea of the colours." How do I love eBay?
