The workspace by the stove was a terrible strain on the eyes at night as there was no light over the prep area. The only light came from the overhead behind us in the middle of the room. Reading in a magazine I saw a way to build a soffet and run electrical for recessed lighting making it a much better place to prepare dinner. Using 2X4s recycled from the demolition of an invasive bathroom upstairs I ran power through the still unfinished ceiling and then proceeded to hide a couple of cool beer bottles in the open spaces.

Every bit of work that I do which I feel changes the original nature of the house can be easily undone. I don't want the work I do to detract from the original beauty of the house but rather enhance it and make this a comfortable, wonderful place to live. Slowly but steady it's getting that way.
